Can I put a dimmer on any light fixture?
Most fixtures, yes — if the bulbs are dimmable and the dimmer matches them. Some cheap LED bulbs aren't dimmable at all, and putting them on a dimmer shortens their life. Bathroom exhaust fans and most fluorescent tubes are also off the list. Tell us what's on the circuit and we'll tell you what works.
Why do my LED lights flicker when dimmed?
Usually it's a mismatch: an incandescent-era dimmer trying to control low-wattage LEDs. Sometimes it's mixed bulb brands on one switch. Occasionally it's a loose connection — which is a real hazard, not just an annoyance. We diagnose which one it is before swapping any parts.
Can you add dimming where two switches control one light?
Yes. That's a 3-way circuit, and it needs a 3-way-rated dimmer at one location with a compatible switch or remote at the other. Smart dimmer kits handle this well. It's a quick job for us — and a common source of tangled wiring when it's done freehand.
Do dimmers actually save energy?
A little, yes. Dimmed LEDs draw less power, and running bulbs below full brightness stretches their lifespan. But the honest answer is that people buy dimmers for comfort and looks first. The energy savings are a bonus, not the headline.
Can a light dimmer control my ceiling fan?
No — and please don't try it. Fan motors need a fan-speed control, not a light dimmer. A dimmer on a fan motor causes humming, overheating, and can burn out the motor. If you want variable speed and dimmable lights on one fan, we wire separate controls for each.
